Brief
In this post-modern world where a lot people lose touch with their roots, Mr. Kiran is a ray of hope. He is a man of many tastes, particularly interested in traditional art forms. The brief for his haven was to incorporate natural and simple finishes, with ample storage for his collection of books, articles, etc. with an emphasis on comfort.
The spaces and its paraphernalia
The house is a fusion of traditional and contemporary motifs and materials. The foyer is designed with a combination of metal and wood, the door handles adding a touch of antiquity. The living room is kept simple and clean with sofa made in wood and cane weaving.
The sofa design and upholstery patterns add a traditional vibe to the living space. This aura is complemented by rustic TV wall finish and the center table, with the swing adding liquidity to the space.
The swing sits within an accented wooden ceiling creating territoriality, separating the living from kitchen.
Kitchen follows the similar color palette as of the living with the printed tiles giving it a spruce. On the other end is the balcony which creates a much-needed contrast to the living and dining spaces.
The balcony floor is done with a combination of Kadapa and slate stone, the blue pottery tiles adding glamor. The cane and wood chairs complement the sofa and swing set maintaining the continuity of the upper ground floor. The grandparents’ room with its simple choice of finishes makes a homely corner for the elderly.

The children bedroom is perhaps the most vibrant place in the house. The bunk bed saves space making the room available for fun and games for the two munchkins. The colors bring playfulness to the space used in combination with wooden and brass finishes which are used in the entire house. The wardrobe in yellow back-painted glass adds a vintage yet a playful vibe. The pivoted storage unit separating wardrobe further accents the high-spirited nature of the room.
The wardrobe and study unit follows simple geometry with the blue pottery again making its appearance adding a splash of color maintaining its continuity to the rest of the house. The big window seating with its neutral choice of finish and upholstery is a cozy corner for high tea.
The master bedroom on the first floor is an epitome of luxury and contentment. The bed backdrop in natural terracotta brings earthiness to the space. The bed stands tall against this backdrop with miniature posters on its edges which complements the theme of the house.
The home theatre makes for an entertainment room for the family and gatherings. Using the concept of Indian lower seating it accommodates a greater number of people. The room is finished in fabric and wooden strips catering to the acoustics.
The giant wooden table with an engraved Ludo game allows for the family to come together and reminisce the childhood days. The legs of the table follow the similar traditional Indian forms which are to be spotted all over the house.
