A Timeless Rustic-Mélange | Yashesh Shukla & Associates

This home has been envisioned as a space where Indian art, natural textures and understated forms come together with ease. Instead of relying on decoration, the design allows materials, artwork and craftsmanship to speak quietly yet powerfully, creating an environment that feels rooted, warm and intentional.

The design follows a philosophy of blending Indian traditional aesthetics with a contemporary minimal approach. Every detail, from textures to the placement of artworks, reflects cultural depth balanced with modern clarity. The focus is on creating a soulful ambience through the careful selection of natural materials and handcrafted elements.

The entrance introduces this narrative with a lime-finished grey wall and a hand-painted storage unit that creates an earthy and grounded impression. The flooring, a mix of white marble, Jaisalmer stone, and green Kota stone, adds subtle richness throughout the home. This understated passage sets the tone for a space that is minimal yet expressive.

The living and dining areas continue the theme of openness and natural light. Teak wood furniture and muted tones allow Indian materials and textures to stand out. A sculptural installation of Mati Tavdi, a terracotta form painted with white motifs, adds a cultural and artistic highlight that blends heritage with contemporary design.

The bedrooms carry the same sense of calm and warmth. In the master bedroom, a carved Mandana stone slab anchors the bed while teak wood furniture and a vibrant Gond artwork add serenity and character. The son’s bedroom focuses on functionality with a study desk integrated into the space and a muted palette brightened by a blue textured accent wall. The puja room serves as a peaceful retreat with a large Pichhwai painting as the focal point, bringing devotion and artistic richness into the space.

Creating this balance between authenticity and minimalism required careful attention. The use of natural materials such as lime plaster, Kota stone, and solid teak wood involved higher investment and longer execution times, including extensive sampling for finishes. These choices, however, give the home its soul. Every material and artwork contributes to a timeless, warm, and deeply personal space that reflects a thoughtful blend of heritage and contemporary living.
