Set on a long rectangular plot in Science City, Ahmedabad, the site offered an opportunity to explore fluidity and openness across its length. With five bedrooms, a home theatre, and generous common spaces, the design smartly embraces the plot’s linearity. The L-shaped footprint maximizes interaction with greenery, ensuring every room opens to views of the outdoors. Natural light, ventilation, and landscape integration form the core of the spatial organization.

The façade expresses timeless elegance through natural granite cladding, teak wood doors, and expansive glass openings. This organic material palette blurs boundaries between the built form and nature. Outdoor verandas and landscaped edges create a continuous visual connection with the surroundings. The approach plaza, with its linear planter-lined pathway leading to the entrance veranda, sets a calm and inviting tone upon arrival.

The entrance vestibule opens into a formal drawing room and pooja space on one side and a flowing living-dining zone on the other. Elevated glazing frames lush garden views, making nature an intrinsic part of the interiors. The family living, dining, and kitchen follow an open-plan arrangement placed strategically on the north side for comfortable temperatures throughout the day. Adjacent verandas and plantations add a strong biophilic character to these communal spaces.

At the core of the residence stands a striking helical staircase, functioning as both a sculptural centerpiece and a vertical connector. Spiralling gracefully through the home, it amplifies the spatial drama while offering an experiential transition between levels. Its presence enhances the luxurious yet understated narrative of the interior design, becoming one of the defining elements of The Slate House.

The first floor features three beautifully detailed bedrooms, each with views of the double-height void and the garden. The master suite includes a serene terrace, a walk-in wardrobe, and a spacious ensuite crafted as a haven of comfort. The second floor evolves into a multi-purpose recreational level to suit the family’s active lifestyle. With open balconies, natural materials, and seamless indoor-outdoor transitions, The Slate House ultimately becomes a home that breathes with its landscape, offering its residents both luxury and tranquility.
